Focus Magic Wow Cata (7 Downloads) - Zedload
In droves. The casual crowd got what they wanted, so they should be happy with Cata... So then why did they leave as well? Because the hype around WoW was also dying out and they were moving to the next trend like Minecraft, Skyrim, CoD, and many other things going on in the world. In short, Wrath got lucky... insanely lucky while Cata went back to normal numbers. 2024-04-04, 02:47 PM #867 Titan Originally Posted by Woggmer That might apply by today, but back then you didn't really need much to convince people try to something. These days it's getting much harder to sell a product since there's already a major distrust between the provider and the consumer, but 15 years ago that wasn't the case. And having it also appeal to a teenage demographic helped add new blood to the game as they were losing more subscribers. And you could say that the nerfs to Cata's dungeon were the direct cause of the decline, but it becomes hard to believe if both New and Old players left at around that same time frame for that reason. Think of it this way... The casual player base, the bulk of the WoW's popularity.. they all wanted Cata dungeons to be easier. Blizzard gave to the demand but it upsets the more vocal veteran players and they leave in droves. The casual crowd got what they wanted, so they should be happy with Cata... You still have not explained why WoW's decline was a result of external factors, or why they became an issue post Cata, and not the quality of the product.Quite honestly that is utterly ridiculous suggestion. There is a reason why WoW had 12million subs and Aion did not and why every single touted WoW killer failed to make a dent and it was not because people were easier to convince in the past. You could say that but you'd have no evidence to support this claim and the fact that they nerfed the dungeons quickly after claiming they would not suggests that this was not the case. There have always been other big games to play, films/TV to watch or work, school and family commitments, etc yet this did not make a difference to WoW's success until Cata. It is clear that something changed at this point and if it was not Cata, as you believe, what was it? 2024-04-04, 06:37 PM #868 The Unstoppable Force Originally Posted by Akka No, that's not obvious because in the context what was. Majority of the players that left World of Warcraft for RIFT eventually find their way back, the damage has been done for the month of March.Source.Players were eating up Cata content like crazy that they've finished all the content that there was before the next update, Firelands. and this was also around the time more MMOs were coming out the woodwork to claim themselves as the WoW killer. Even if years later they would fail, they did significant damage to the subscriber loss. Not to mention games like Minecraft were much more appealing to a younger audience than WoW, and big blockbuster games like Skyrim were nearing their launch by the time Cata was ending. It's not just a matter of Cata's content sucked, but that players were finished with it and were ready to move on to the next big thing. New MMOs were coming out the woodwork to challenge WoW. While most of them have died out by now, a lot of the tourists trying out WoW for the first time moved on to other MMOs to try other things, but even those would go on the decline because again... Nobody expects players to keep eating the same content for months on end. This isn't to say that Cata is a good expansion (people will always have their biases and opinions about Cata), but it wasn't the actual CAUSE behind the subscription loss. 2024-04-05, 04:11 AM #879 Scarab Lord Originally Posted by Ereb Yeah because everybody knows companies are famous for saying "you know what we have enough money now" LMAO You think that such small number of subs that it wouldn't be a noticeable drop of the graph would be worth entering another deal with Netease?
